Power
There are many kinds of forklifts which are powered by propane gas. Propane-powered forklifts are simple to refill. The gas is stored in a pressurized tank on the rear of the truck. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and then the vapor combines with air. The throttle of the forklift is utilized to control the vapor flow. A spark plug ignites the air and vapor mixture producing pressure that moves the pistons. The pistons power the hydraulic pump and turn the wheels.
Forklifts that use propane are recommended for use in warehouses and other buildings because they are clean burning with low emissions.
Hydraulics
The hydraulic system of the forklift is what allows it to lift and transport really heavy things from place to place. A pump, tubes and cylinders make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid in the tubing and into the cylinders. The pressure build up pushes a piston, that raises the forks. When the operator lowers the forks, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.
Steering
Propane forklifts work well where maneuverability is needed. Unlike a car, a forklift uses its back wheels to pivot, which allows the forklift to pivot quickly on a tight radius.
